(click on the pcitures for full size) Navigating the Hudson VFR corridor can be a tricky task, but with some careful planning it's not too bad at all. I recently went down with a friend, Brett, in a Mooney,
and it was fun. We were coming from the North, and had advisories the entire time. The photos below are EXACTLY what you would see coming from the North Hudson River/ Tappan Zee bridge area.
You can exit by flying back up the Hudson on the east side, but we chose to exit on the south of Long Island. I would recommend doing this during the week when the traffic is lighter. And please
realize how sensitive people are about this stuff now, and at least get advisories down the Hudson....we kept with controllers the entire time, and exited out the south of Long Island and flew north over the sound back home.

Upon entering the "feeder" for the Hudson corridor, you'll see the Tappan Zee bridge. This is the first good checkpoint.
Staying on the west side of the Hudson, you'll see the cliffs (Palisades) on your right. We're at 1000' here.
Next, the George Washington Bridge looms out of the haze...still staying on the West Side here.
Past the GW bridge..city getting closer. Still at 100' on advisories.
Still on approach, the city is off the left side now. You'll see the aircraft carrier Intrepid soon on your left. The Concorde is next to it.
More pictures of the city...
The tunnel stack is on the right. Still on approach here, helicopter traffic picking up, still at 1000', but planning on descending soon.
Statue of Liberty coming into view....the large building is the tunnel vent, I believe...
Starting the descent to 400', advisories still, controllers know our intentions now. Circle the Statue then exit southeast.
More Statue....
Circle the statue at 400', watch for other traffic, then get ready to exit.
Here comes the Verrazano Narrows bridge..be VERY careful here..we're at 400' and the bridge..well..you can see.
Between the spans...amazing view!
And out to the south...Coney Island?
